A Russian drone’s incursion into Romanian airspace on September 13 is the latest evidence of Russia’s irresponsible, unacceptable attitude in the conduct of its war of aggression against Ukraine. This is not an isolated incident since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, and follows incursions into Polish airspace on September 10.
France reiterates its support for Romania and assures it of its total solidarity. As a framework nation of NATO’s multinational battlegroup in Romania, it is working actively to ensure that country’s security.
Given Russia’s unacceptable attitude, the allies are continuing to strengthen their air defenses. A new surveillance and air defense mission on the eastern flank (operation Eastern Sentry) was therefore launched on September 12. France is playing an active role in that mission and announced that it was sending three Rafale fighter jets to take part in this effort to reinforce the Alliance’s eastern flank.
